The Kootenay Festival 2017 was a success! Although it was windy enough to make us cancel one of our workshops, we still had fun for the first two! First, we made sailboats out of sponges, a wooden dowel, and some coloured paper for the sails. Second, we made fidget spinners, and, as we predicted, this workshop was a hit! For both workshops, it was super fun for us to see all the interesting stuff everyone came up with. We ended the day with 34 more creative acts, pushing us above 450!

July 13-14 included 150+ Creative Acts’ final travelling workshops. On the 13th, we went to the Kootenay Society for Community Living and on the 14th we went to ESL Family Time at the Kootenay Family Place. At both places we had a blast and made wonderful connections with the community, and we think they enjoyed us being there too! Stay tuned for some more fun we’re planning as the project comes to a close, but in the meantime, keep sending us creative acts until July 29th, and we’ll see you at Kootenay Festival next week!

Celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday was so much fun! We set up our booth at Millennium Park, where we got to see the raising of the Canadian flag, the new fire truck, and there were delicious food trucks to top off the festivities. We got about 30 creative acts from people coming to our booth!

Here are some pictures from the 150+ Creative Acts official opening night on June 16th at 7PM. There were a total of 99 people who came to participate in the art room and to listen to the artists’ experiences making their work. We got 38 submissions toward our project and at the same time, we were in awe of the artists’ representations of what Canada 150 means to them. The show will be up until July 29th, hope to see you there!

Here are some photos from the Plein Air Paint Out we hosted at the Kootenay Gallery of Art on June 10th! It was so cool to see everyone participate and show us their own version of art. What a beautiful day this was!

Sunfest 2017 was a hit for the Kootenay Gallery and 150+ Creative Acts booth! We had people of all shapes and sizes crafting birthday cards for Canada and drawing or painting at our free-for-all art station! We also gave visitors an opportunity to say what they have created or what they would like to create, and to express gratitude for Canada. We had over 100 visitors at our booth and 68 participants, whose creations will go toward 150+ Creative Acts. We’re almost at 150 acts, and then we can make our first birthday candle!
